Self-Care

“You can’t pour from an empty cup.” Self-care is so important. I want to share this with you all because I did not grasp how important it was until the past year or so. For a long time, it seemed like I was drained all of the time. Want to know why? I was trying to be everything to everybody, but I was not taking the time I needed for myself. For so long, I confused self-care with selfishness. I felt I had to do for others, even when I felt like I had very little to give. I try to live by the mantra, “do unto others as you would have them do to you.” (Luke 6:31)

However, for a long time I was not implementing it in the proper way. I overexerted myself without taking the time I needed to replenish myself. I am here to tell you that if you do not have the energy or time to give, it is ok to say “not this time.” You have to take the time to do what you need for yourself, so that you can have the right spirit to do for others. Find what makes you happy, discover new hobbies, and explore! Be you and stop worrying about what others will think when you say no! When you take time away for yourself and to be to yourself, you gain a greater appreciation for your value and worth. It helps you to gain a greater sense of respect for yourself, so you can be there for others.
