Growing Faith

“…Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20-21 NIV

“Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” James 2:17 NKJV

New Year, New You! With the ushering in of a new year, many people take it as an opportunity to start fresh. The first step many people take is to make vision boards, New Year's resolutions, and goal lists to outline them. Unfortunately, many of these goals fall to the wayside all too quickly because of lack of faith. It is one thing to set goals, but it is another thing to believe you have what it takes to make them happen. All you need to start with is faith as small as a mustard seed. A lot of times, people expect to just wake up with the faith needed to press forward. It does not work like that. Faith is something that you need to constantly work at. You do not need much to get started, however. All you need is faith as small as a mustard seed. Do you have any idea how small a mustard seed is? Google it, it is tiny. The great thing is like any seed, it will grow with the proper care. Today, make the decision to plant your spiritual seed of faith. As long as it is rooted in the proper soil, it will grow. You need to truly believe that better is coming, and be moved to action. Remember, faith without works is dead. Works is a verb meaning action. Backing your faith with action is like the sunlight and water that allows a seed to blossom. If you are someone who needs help growing faith, I have included a prayer below to help! I hope 2017 is a year of increased faith!

Prayer

Lord, my faith is not as strong as it needs to be. I want to firmly rooted in you. I do not have much to offer right now, and my faith seems small. I know that your word says that all I need is faith as small as a mustard seed, so I come to you with that with which I have. I pray that at the end of this year, my faith will be stronger than before. I also pray that you grant me the strength to back my faith with action. Amen

Keep Climbing,

Marriah
