Rise

Cling to positivity, and do not allow negativity to poison your spirit. Let me say that one more time! Cling to positivity, and do not allow negativity to poison your spirit. How many of you will consider your day ‘ruined’ because of unexpected problems, someone else’s bad attitude, or an unavoidable delay? One occurrence of the sort will cause you to forget the fact that God woke you woke up that morning and started you on your way. You cease being thankful for everything going right and focus on the one little thing going wrong. Why is that we allow temporary circumstances to taint our entire being? Some situations and people do not deserve or warrant a response from you! Instead, view it as an opportunity to rise above. You also need to learn to release the negativity altogether! It takes strength and self-control to refrain from responding to negativity in a like manner, but it takes even more strength to not allow it to pollute your mind and taint your spirit.

I know some of you may be thinking, “But Marriah, this person on my job really works my nerves!” RISE ABOVE! “But, this person has been trolling my social media profile.” RISE ABOVE! “But, the sales associate caught an unnecessary attitude with me.” RISE ABOVE! Stop allowing the negativity of other people to compromise who you are as a person. For pete’s sake, have some self control. "Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” (Proverbs 25:28). Are you really going to allow one person or situation to compromise all the progress you have achieved?

There will be times when a response is necessary, but make sure it is sprinkled with the love and patience that Christ shows you on a daily basis. How can you do this? Manage your impulse controls and take time to assess whether a response from you will add value. Remember, “the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23). You will soon become that which you allow to dwell within your spirit.

Keep Climbing,

Marriah
