What is Stored in Your Heart?

Your heart is so very important! It does not merely circulate the blood through your body, but it is also paramount to your spiritual growth and development. That is why it is important to guard your heart because everything flows from it. What if the first thing people you encountered saw was your heart, as opposed to your outward appearance? What would be revealed about you? What do you have stored in your heart?

You may decorate your flesh with nice clothes, jewelry, and other accessories, but it is only a matter of time before the matters of your heart are revealed. Think of your heart as a funnel that directs your thoughts and actions. “But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts.” Mark 15:18-19. A lot of times we are so quick to blame the enemy for causing us to have perverse thoughts or use foul words, when in actuality we need to examine our hearts.

Rend your heart, not just your garments. Just as you habitually change your clothes on a regular basis, you should begin the practice of doing the same with your heart by working to remove any blemish that taints it. So I ask you again, what is stored in your heart? Is it hatred, malice, bitterness, and unforgiveness? Or is it love, peace, and understanding?

Now, I want you to think of the things you do, the thoughts you entertain, and the words you utter. Based on your thoughts, words, and actions, what is actually stored in your heart? I am not asking what you want to be there, I am asking what is actually stored there. "...For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of." Luke 6:45. It is time to start making an effort to purify your heart! Now that you know it is time to make a change, your next question may be how? To begin you can be candid and honest with the lord just like David was and ask the lord to create in you a pure heart and renew a steadfast spirit within you. [Psalm 51:10]. You can be renewed! What’s next? Give God the key to your heart and don’t go changing the locks just because times are tough.

Keep Climbing,

Marriah
